About Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga
Bhimashankar is tucked into the dense Sahyadri ranges of the Western Ghats, 110 km from Pune — its 13th-century Nagara-style spire surrounded by an emerald wildlife sanctuary that protects the rare Indian giant squirrel.
Local legend tells that Lord Shiva took the form of Bhima here to vanquish the demon Tripurasura — and his sweat became the origin of the Bhima river that rises in this valley.
We pair the temple visit with a guided trek through the sanctuary's monsoon canopy, the Hanuman Lake darshan and a Maharashtrian thali at a heritage farmstay.
